I’ve chosen to be an open book and share my GAP struggle and how my team applied our Professional GAP FILLING methodology to overcome the biggest obstacle I’ve ever faced.
My fingers trembled on my keyboard for 5 days putting my truth to text, as if by doing so, it would etch in stone “THE POINT OF NO RETURN”.

Last week, I discussed my personal Stage 1 GAP struggles in repatriating to the U.S.A. To move forward, I had to Identify Coherent Information as to why, and how those GAPS existed.
GAP’s HINDER PROGRESS!
They hindered mine.
SIMPLE WAS NOT EASY! It forced me to deal with Stage 2, Affirming what I had Identified.
Easier said than done.
The obvious hard skills were easy to identify, like the 37-year GAP abroad, which explained my local problems including a lack of an extensive network and resources for setting up a Brazilian team in the U.S.
However, what I truly struggled with—and still do, though it no longer hinders my progress—was IDENTIFYING & AFFIRMING the GAP root of my exhaustion, causing a vicious cycle of health issues.
Being a single mother and sole provider was unfathomable. I had to IDENTIFY and AFFIRM this new reality to overcome exhaustion, rebuild my strength and accept responsibility for my daughter’s well-being.
I had to AFFIRM that, despite it being an obligation rather than a choice, forgiveness was essential. I needed to forgive myself for creating a collapsible structure, allowing me to clear the rubble, move to Stage 3, and create new PATHWAYS.
Successful Professional Development (PD) often involves dismantling incoherent and dysfunctional processes to rebuild.
IDENTIFYING this in Stage 1 is usually straightforward, and defining the PATHWAYS in Stage 3 is exhilarating.
But Stage 2—AFFIRMING what shouldn’t or can’t be—can be agonizing.
Without our incredible team, I wouldn’t have had the strength to create a new, independent pathway to rebrand nearly four decades of service in a new country.
